We’re lucky to have such a dedicated team caring for our community at the Hants Shore Community Health Centre. Here’s a look at the friendly faces who help make it all happen.
Dr. Barbara Steinbrecher, GP
Originally from New Hampshire, Dr. Barb joined us in August. With a focus in geriatrics, she brings experience, warmth, and a patient-focused approach to care. She’s already making a difference by connecting with patients and supporting the team with her knowledge and guidance.
Michelle Maynard, Nurse Practitioner
Michelle joined in October as the Health Centre’s first-ever Nurse Practitioner—a big milestone for us! She brings over 20 years of experience from Hants Community Hospital, along with skill, compassion, and a genuine dedication to helping people stay well.
Corin Hagmann, Family Practice Nurse
Corin worked as a nurse at Valley Regional for 19 years and has been with us for just over a year. She is the Health Centre’s very first-ever Family Practice Nurse, a steady, caring presence for patients and providers alike, and a key part of our clinical team.
Reception Team – Kim Brown, Jean Crawford, Erin Rick Brown & Pam Spencer
The friendly voices who greet you, help with appointments, and make everyone feel welcome. In addition to reception, Kim keeps things organized behind the scenes as Office Manager, while Jean, our Community Engagement Coordinator, is amazing at building connections and bringing people together through programs and initiatives that support wellness for all ages. Jean and Kim also share responsibility for bookkeeping for the Health Centre.
Chassidy Purcell, Cleaning Staff
Chassidy helps make sure our Health Centre stays clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone.
Together, this team brings dedication, heart, and care to everything they do. Despite the challenges and changes over the past few years, we have remained committed to the Health Centre and to ensuring our patients and community continue to receive the care and support they deserve.

Intake Appointments
Thank you for your patience as we work to complete intake appointments for over 1,200 patients at Hants Shore Community Health Centre.
An intake appointment is your first formal visit with a doctor or nurse practitioner (NP) to review your health, update your chart, and start a plan for your care. Part of this may also be done with our Family Practice Nurse, Corin, to make sure everything is ready for your provider.
While you wait, please continue to access care as you normally would, through Virtual Care NS, the West Hants Access Clinic, Pharmasave’s Primary Care Clinic, or the ER if needed.
Please wait for us to contact you to schedule your intake appointment. We are currently booking 1 to 2 weeks at a time to allow flexibility and manage appointments carefully.
Prescriptions cannot be renewed until your intake is complete. Patients must not give Dr. Barb or Michelle’s names for test results or specialist appointments before their intake. Any results/reports sent before an intake will be returned to the sender.
We know this can be frustrating, and we appreciate your understanding. Taking the time to do this carefully helps Dr. Barb, Michelle, and Corin provide balanced care and continue working happily in our community.
